Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need a referral?
You do not need a referral to see a physiotherapist when you are paying privately. However you will need a referral from your GP if your treatment is being subsidised by Medicare EPC.
Can I claim health rebates for physio treatment?
Private health rebates for physiotherapy are available. To find out if you are covered for physiotherapy or how much of the payment will be covered it is best to contact your private health fund directly, as the amount covered will depend on your particular level of cover. We have a HICAPS machine that allows you to claim on the day of service and pay the difference. Alternately, you can pay in full and claim the rebate from your health fund directly.
How many treatments will I need?
The number of visits required will vary between conditions and patients. There are many factors that contribute to this, such as: type of condition, severity, personal response to therapy. Your physiotherapist will work with you to determine the best treatment schedule that works for you and your health needs.
What do I need to bring with me?
If possible please bring any scans, hospital discharge summary, post-surgery information, referrals or any other information provided from other medical professionals that is relevant to your condition. This will help your physiotherapist get the necessary information to make an informed decision about your diagnosis and treatment.
What should I wear?
As part of physiotherapy treatment, we often need to see the area of the body that is injured. If possible, please bring or wear clothing that allows you to expose the area. For example: shorts and/or singlet. Comfortable clothing that you are able to move in, such as gym clothes, is normally best. For a pelvic floor consultation, there is no need to wear any particular clothing. Your physiotherapist will explain everything at the time of your appointment and there is plenty of time to ask questions. For mastitis/breast consultations, please ensure your comfort, which may mean not wearing a bra if that is best for you.
Can I bring my baby to the appointment?
Yes! Babies and children are welcome. We are a women's health and children's practice and understand the difficulty in finding care options to attend appointments. Waiting room and therapy rooms are well stocked with toys and books to keep little ones entertained and there is plenty of room for prams.
Can I breastfeed at your clinic?
Yes! Breastfeeding is supported. Please feel free to breastfeed in one of our comfortable sofas in the waiting area or if you prefer, a private area/therapy room (if not in use) can be made available for you.
Is there parking at the clinic?
Yes, we have plenty of parking at both Eltham and Yarrambat Clinics, with pram and wheelchair access.
